About Randy Harris
I have been taking photographs for over 30 years now. I started when my Great Grandfather gave me his Olympus 35 mm film camera. I took a few photos and I was hooked. As I got more and more interested in photography I bought more equipment and lots of how to books. I purchased my first new camera back in 84 when I purchased a Chinon camera from Kits Camera in Guildford. I also enrolled in a photography coarse though the New York Institute of Photography, where I learned so much and enjoyed the coarse very much.
I began to do Wedding Photography in the early 80’s when a friend of mine asked me to do his wedding. After doing their wedding, friends of theirs then ask me to do theirs and friends of theirs and so on and so on. Soon I was booked almost every weekend, and making pretty good money. I really do enjoy doing Weddings and I have never a had a bad review on any that I have done.
I purchased a Minolta high end 35 mm film camera a few years later and some new lenses. This was the start of many things, such as freelancing for the local newspapers doing accident and fire photos. I enjoyed this very much. One shot I did of and terrible tanker truck and car accident one night where I got some great shots of the firefighters silhouetted by the intense flames. This lead to me getting hired to photograph all the paid career firefighters in Surrey, B.C. I also sold many framed fine art photography images of landscapes, animals, flowers, and other misc. shots.
Now with the Digital era I enjoy photography even more. The main thing with digital is now we can shoot hundreds of images and it doesn’t cost you an arm and leg for processing. I like being able to see right away what the image looks like rather than waiting for the film to come back from the lab to see if you got the shot you wanted. Some people say the the age of digital made more competition out there for photographers, well I disagree to a degree. You still have to have an eye for it, you have to know what to look for and train your eye to see everything in a photographic way.
I now own a new Sony a900 DSLR and a Minolta 7D and a wide range of lenses and accessories, including a 600-1300 mm zoom lens. I love everything about photography and can’t wait to grab my camera whenever I can and start shooting. My girlfriend, Dawn Swidrowrich, has also become a great fan of photography and has taken over with my Minolta and is now learning faster then I did. She has been progressing very rapidly and every week gets better and better. We both enjoy working with Photoshop and Picniks to work on our photos. We have been working this summer on being the official photographers at a lot of local Custom Car and Hot Rod Car shows. We have a booth where we sell photos of custom cars framed and in folders. We take and print photos right on site.
I hope you enjoy my website and the photos I have taken over the past 30 years. Please feel free to contact me at anytime.
Thank you and enjoy. (check out my personal website at rharrisphotos.com)
